Nikki Stern is the author of seven books, a dozen short stories, and countless essays, some of which can be found here. Several of the latter have been published in the New York Times, Newsweek, USA Today and in three anthologies. The books divide between non-fiction (Because I Say So; Hope in Small Doses) and fiction (The Former Assassin; The Wedding Crasher; Bird in Hand; and Freeze Before Burning). The last three form  the award-winning Sam Tate mystery series, whose new title, Judge Not, releases in September 2023.

Nikki has led several professional lives. She worked as a professional musician (composer/singer) and a public relations director for architecture firms in New York, Princeton, and Philadelphia. Following the loss of her husband on 9/11/01, she became a families’ advocate for the governor of New Jersey and the executive director of Families of September 11. She currently serves on the leadership council of Search for Common Ground, an international conflict transformation organization.

Future plans include a children’s series, a young adult book and more non-fiction.
